Movie-on-demand Startup, Muvizz Can Be A Saviour For Offbeat Indian Cinema
The Competition among the movie-on-demand websites in India is heating up, thanks to faster internet speeds. These websites allow users to watch movies on demand at a monthly subscription or at a pay-per-view charge. While the current players such as BigFlix, Eros Now and Spuul focus on mainstream Indian cinema, Muvizz, a Mumbai-based startup aims to curate contemporary and parallel cinema.
There is no dearth of cinematic talent in India, but most documentaries and short films die out without proper funding, except for few that make waves on social media. With a panel that consists of Bollywood star ‘Manoj Bajpai’, Muvizz curates quality shorts, documentaries and feature films. Currently, there are around 200 movies in their database, including some free movies.
Co-founded by a former investment banker, Muvizz recently received $350k in angel funding and aims to use the funds to improve their database and traffic. Users can choose to either purchase a monthly subscription or pay-per-view for the movies they wish to watch.
